「君は何ヶ月分もらえた？」
シンガポールの職場で働いていると、こんな歯に衣着せぬ質問が、単刀直入に社内の同僚チャットで寄せられる。
自分の評価が周りや一般マーケットと比較してどうなのか気になって仕方がない、物心ついた頃より競争社会を生き抜いてきたという環境が背景にあるのは間違いない。
私は回答に困る。正直に言うべきなのか、狭義的ではあるが、それによって相手に劣等感を持たれても今後の仕事に障害が出る。ここは低くしておいて優越感を持ってもらった方が良いのか。
「同僚と比べて、自分のボーナス額の少なさに驚いたハリー社員はショックを受け、翌日上司に掛け合った」とストレーツタイムズ紙では実際のエピソードを紹介している。
給与透明性について触れる記事が、ここのところ多くなった。
最近の有名なケースは、Netflixシリーズでイギリス王室の歴史的事件と王室ロマンスを描いた「ザ・クラウン」の主演エリザベス女王役Claire Foyの報酬が、夫であるフィリップ殿下役の男優の額より少なかったことが判明した件など、ジェンダーギャップによる賃金格差だ。
現在、イギリス、フランス、ドイツの企業では、ジェンダー賃金格差レポートを提出することが義務になっている。
LinkedIn社が実施したグローバル人材レポート（2019年）によれば、調査対象5,164社中75％が社内の賃金透明性について社員から開示要求があった事実が報告されている。
ちなみに、シンガポールでは、企業が給与額開示要求に応じなくても良いという法律はないが、ほとんどの企業はそれを公開することはしない。（TSMP法律事務所Ian Lim氏）
社内の同僚らにしろ、一般マーケットとの比較にしろ、自分の報酬が周りと比べて少ないとわかってしまった社員は、通常、早い段階で辞職する。

After the bonus letter announcement, I often receive this question from my colleagues through hangout chats.
Not sure if I should tell them the amount honestly or not, I believe this direct question is one of Singapore's unique cultures being competitive not only at the workplace but also in the whole labour market.

In Britain, France and Germany, companies now must do gender pay gap reporting, says the article.
TSMP Law Corp head of employment Mr Ian Lim states there are no laws stopping companies from barring employees from disclosing their salaries in Singapore. However, most companies do not impose such pay confidentiality clauses, he said.
